What have you learned about Columbia during the Bridge program?
Well for starters its a lot of money lol but i love the school. This has been one of the top schools i wanted to do to since the 7Th grade. I have learn that doing a lot of home work can be lots of fun. Just being in the bridge program really was a big challenge for me. Ireally had it hard to focus on doing the home work but things still came throught. I have a lot going on in my life at this moment and trying to keep up with this college thing has been a big success in my life. I would never think that i would be going to college but im here now and there is no turning back from here. This program has put me in positions that I have never been in but they still work out in the lord's favor.

What i think about Columbia??

What have you learned about Columbia during the Bridge program?
That its expensive, its a wonderful school to attend. Its a lot of money. Being up here have shown me a lot of good and bad things about Chicago and about people.. how things change for the worst and for the better.. it was a good journey, its a wonderful school just not for me at the time.

What have you learned about college courses?
i know a lot about college courses.. i have attend college for a year already, but every school as something different to offer you.. i see a lot of courses i could take but, getting the classes out the way that i need to graduate with first.

How will you choose success at Columbia?
I have though about it, and i know Columbia can give me a lot of education, but its not the move i want for my success just yet.... i still have a lot of thinking before i make a decision on what school i want to give me my success.

Cross The Bridge

I've learned a lot about Columbia. I meet some of the teachers and students that I will be attending school with semster. Also learned that the teachers do care for you to succedd. I've learned that the Columbia courses require at lot of hard-work and determination to complete the various task's they assign. But how will I choose sucess? I will choose sucess by staying focus.

Bridge Program

After attending these past three weeks of a bridge I have learned a lot about Columbia.. I learned that Columbia understands that some of us may have not did so great in highschool or scored high on ACT and SAT so that is why they created the Bridge program to show us they will give us a chance to prove that we can handle college. I also think that it was a great idea to attend this program because I've met many different people and a lot of teachers that i might have in the next four years. Also Columbia has shown that everyone here cares about our education and cares about us doing well over the next four years. I was very excited about attending Columbia, but after the past three weeks and I'm even more excited and not so nervous because I know the campus and know some teachers so on the first day of school it will be like nothing knew.
I also learned a lot more about myself over the past three weeks. I know most everyone doesn't look at school as something that you enjoy all the time, but I feel excited everytime I'm in class. I look forward to class discussions everyday and just seeing everyone, it really has become more then just a boring class. Classes are fun not only because the people are great but because it's something I enjoy doing. I enjoy the books we read and writing our responses and our final essay was so exciting for me I couldn't wait to jump right into it. I really look at college a lot differently now and I know that it wont be boring and it will be things that I have interest in and really enjoy. I can't wait for fall classes to start!! I hope that I see everyone from bridge this fall and hope to have classes with them..

Success at Columbia

Attending Bridge I've learned so much about Columbia. Before I got here I thought it was going to be a place where people were very critical of your work. I thought that I was going to feel less in what I love to do in order to push myself further. I thought I was going to be intimidated by artists and poets who have been in the arts since childhood. I was completely wrong! This to me is like a community I can connect to. I feel like I can express myself the best way I know how, and I feel like the staff really cares about you. I like how the teachers are very diverse in personality and teaching styles. Being here is just really helping me embrace college life and looking forward to learning new things. I've been introduced to so much here and I'd like for that to continue during my time here in Columbia.

As far as college courses, I see that we have to write a lot! There is just so much writing, which is something I like to do, but goodness! I mean we write and think and analyze until we reach the core. I see how much we are pushed to go beyond the surface, and how we can be flexible with our writings and ideas. When I went to orientation to place my schedule, I was a little disappointed I got stuck with two night classes because I'm not that comfortable with the city, but it's an experience I think will help me overcome that discomfort. I believe everything happens for a reason, so I will be okay during those times. Those times will work out! But yeah...back to the writing, I definitely have a reading assignment and 500 word essay due when I begin school for journalism! At least I am prepared thanks to Bridge program on how to go about the work. I should have known I would get a book that looks similar to a dictionary!

Overall I do feel like I'm moving into the transition from high school to college student. I'm maturing as a young lady, and I'm expanding my thoughts as a writer. To choose success I will have to remain focused on what it is I'm here for. I will more than likely get involved with different school activities, and probably asks for help when I need it. I will also need to build a good support system with people who are here to achieve the same goals as me. To get that degree!!! No one besides myself can make it happen for me. I know that I have to want this more than anything, plus my Ma and family is counting on me. I'm not too worried about succeeding here at Columbia, this place is meant for me.

"FIELD TRIP" ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 12

On Tuesday, instead of visiting a gallery, we'll take part in a panel discussion about the Museum of Contemporary Photography's exhibit "Beyond the Backyard" with Stephanie Shonekan ("Black Music: Evolution and Aesthetics") and Kevin Fuller.

Look over the work you did during our class visit to the Museum of Contemporary Photography and, if you can, stop by the museum for another visit this afternoon.

This isn't a lecture, it's a panel discussion, which means that you will need to be prepared with questions and topics you want to discuss.
